Round 3 Results....

A Gift for Moi?

John and I met some friends in Rehobeth for dinner last Saturday. Big fun.
Here is a picture of some of us. (John, Kevin, Me and part of Jeff). There were about 4 more men w/us that evening. I was having lots of fun. John got a headache.

Kevin is the most creative and sweet person. He recently sent me a whole batch of these beautiful hand-made (by him) cards. I will show them in another post. When we saw Kevin on Saturday he had yet another gift for me. I was so surprised but I do love a gift.

Isn't it beautiful? The dish has too much sun hitting it in this pic but you get the idea. Wait here's another shot.

Isn't that a clever idea? A birdfeeder made out of a silver dish. I adore it. I'm a lucky girl.

One last word on snakes and please vote again...

Margaret and Mark both thought the snake in my laundry room (previous post). Looked like a copperhead. I thought "What are they smoking?" So I went on the web to set them straight because every picture I've ever seen of a copperhead they really looked copper. But when I went to find a pic on the web here is what I found.
These first 3 are baby copperheads.

One website said this about the baby copperheads:
Babies, like all hemotoxic snakes, look like miniature duplicates of the adult in every way. Typically, a bright yellow or lime green tail tip is seen.
Here is an adult:

I see the resemblance but I don't think that is my snake. Head shape.
Now here is my snake...

and here is a corn snake

and a rat snake

So I don't know what kind of freaking snake it is and I officially am sick of snakes!

Remember to vote before Thursday at 4pm at See entry below for details. Thanks

Made it through Round 2! Now Round 3 Vote! Ay!

Now for the interesting part:

(Note to Mark Minnick: This is how you correctly blog about snakes on your property. You include pictures.)
We (My son Johnny and I) love to have a snake sighting. I never pick them up. Johnny has. But mostly we want to identify them. We worry when John (my husband)finds them because though he will call us to look he has an inclination to rid the earth of them. He tells Johnny and I when we are willing to crawl under the house to fix things we can keep them alive. Most times Johnny and I can manage a catch and release. (Ourselves Mark.) Johnny and I also used to watch Croc Hunter so when we see a snake the call goes out in an Australian accent. Snake! Johnny got the call from his dad and off we go to the laundry room? Yes there was a snake in the laundry room. It is built into the barn so it could have gotten in a million different ways. When Johnny and I arrived on the scene John had it cornered under the washer and Johnny and I knew we had to get it first. John held the washer up and Johnny had a tomato stake he scooted it out w/while I had a box ready. (And my always ready camera, Mark). Thankfully Johnny and I got it in the box.

It was just a baby. Very long but skinny like a pencil. Johnny and I figure its a corn snake and John figured we should kill it. Johnny and I started walking fast with that box.

We managed to release it and off it went in the cornfield. Later.

In other snake news my neighbor finally mowed his lawn for the first time all summer. Why bother I ask? It looked better when I couldn't see the house anymore. Sadly the next day we found a big old black snake next to the barn that had been nicked by his lawn mower. He didn't survive. And last month Lisa and Johnny found themselves standing a foot away from an orange and black striped snake. Lisa ran and Johnny went to find something to move him w/but he disappeared. I wasn't home dammit. I had them look through all our snake identifying books but they both kept going back to a snake that resides in Arizona. Who knows.

Big Blogger Contest or DON'T VOTE FOR ME!

Imagine my surprise this morning when I read this posted by Mark my friend and fellow blogger. The ever clever and funny Mark has created a blogger reality game and I am in it!

My first thought was panic. I am not the competitive type. The people in Marks blog circle don't even know me. They know my sister Carla. Not me. Therefore I will definitely be the first voted off. I am not in their circle of friends. Okay. Chill. Who cares? It's just a silly game.

BUT! Before I hang my head in defeat and walk away let me remind the accountants at Follow and Spot of this birdhouse that was made w/my own two hands:

Is that Marks deck upon which the birdhouse is resting? Ummm...YES.
I would furthermore like you to note that I made the following references to The Follow Spot:

In which I get an artist friend of mine to do a drawing for Mark.
In which I randomly mention The Follow Spot.
In which I laud a Follow Spot post.
In which I mention The Follow Spot in a post titled THINGS I LIKE ALOT.
In which I make note of the hilarity of The Follow Spot.

I would also like to present to you, the readers of The Follow Spot the following:
Exhibit A

Yes, thats right. That is me with Megan.Lawrence. who starred in THE PAJAMA GAME on Broadway w/Harry Connick Jr. I think you all know Megan. Did you, her friends from The Follow Spot go to see her show in NYC? WELLLLLLLLLL let me present...
Exhibit B:
My Very First Post which chronicles my trip to NYC to see Megan Lawrence in THE PAJAMA GAME and the post where the above picture was taken. HA!
(Note to readers: You will notice if you follow the link to my first post that I don't normally look so heavy in any of the other pictures in that post. That's a bad picture of me w/Megan. I must have been cold and wearing layers.)

And one more thing for Follow Spot readers. I am sure you all have done many a show with Scott Dakin. Well he is my brother-in-law. Surely that excludes me from getting a vote.

And to my own circle of blog friends I know I can count on you when the call goes out. Hopefully...

Boardwalk Tour

So yesterday my son wanted us to take him to the beach on 3rd St, something about girls. That's up by the boardwalk. Not my scene. BUT I had been wanting to go to the boardwalk to take pictures not only because there is alot of good photo ops there but because I was looking for distracting pics for the FDTG.

I was in a bad mood almost as soon as we got there. Just walking up the side streets it was so filthy. I don't understand why OC doesn't keep it clean. IT is not a big town. They spend money on improvements all the time. Why not just clean what you have. The boardwalk is a huge draw but it is filthy! Anyway the boys got in the ocean and John and I went for a walk in the sweltering heat on the boards. It reeked of beer and popcorn in the hot noonday sun. I guess its less noticeable at night. I'll have to remember that.

So first stop: Thrasher French Fries. I am not a fry girl but John can't go to the boardwalk without stopping there.

While I was waiting for John I noticed these boardwalk fashions and felt the need to share.

Boardwalk Art Gallery.

Now anyone who has ever been to the boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland has seen one of these. The man who makes these sand sculptures has been doing it forever. I have never not seen one.

Okay here is another example of OC spending money on improvements and then not taking care of them. OC hired my former employer while I was still working there, to do a series of these (maybe 12?) mosaics along the boardwalk. That was maybe 5 years ago. They are dirty and missing tiles. Maintenance people. Maintenance!

I had to have a ferris wheel pic. Not the best I know. But can you see that bungee tandem thingy hanging between the 2 poles. What is wrong w/people?

When this attraction first came to the boards I really wanted to go. I am a freak like that. I finally talked one of my kids into it, paid ALOT of money and then had to leave almost immediately because the child freaked out at the shrunken heads. Dammit.

Stay tuned for part 2. I was just getting to the good part of the boards when we had to turn back.

Finally a solution!

For any of you who aren't reading Kvatch do yourself a favor and check out the frogsphere today.

I came home yesterday and when I stopped at the mailbox at the end of the drive to retrieve my mail there was a little yellow post it announcing a package that was left for me in the barn. I was excited. I could smell it all the way at the end of the driveway. There it was on the cooler INSIDE a plastic bag and I really could smell it. Spadoman's great coffee was in da howse!

I was tempted to make some immediately BUT I hadn't slept well the night before. So I waited...

Finally a new day has dawned.

Well dear readers, it was everything he said it would be. I enjoyed a truly great cup of coffee. Lots of flavor and it smelled so yummy. I hadn't had such good coffee since a friend brought some back from Bolivia. Thank you Spadoman.

And speaking of Spadoman, have you checked out his brothers blog ? It goes great with a cup of coffee. Those boys can tell a story.

WTF Zebra?

Not much going on around here and when that's the case I don't have much to say and so I don't blog. But last night John took me to Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. Great shops and restaurants.

We walked around for a while and stopped in shops then decided to find a place to eat. It was only 6:00 but we couldn't get in anywhere. They were booked w/reservations. We went to a side street that was less congested and tried to get in a restaurant called ZEBRA. Some friends of mine had done huge murals of the Serengeti in there a few years back. Oddly enough, its an Italian restaurant. The place was empty but they said they were booked. We walked across the street to 59 Lake Street and were seated immediately. We had a great dinner and mine was so pretty I had to take a picture for you.

It is salmon with a sourcream and basil sauce with red peppers, broccoli and a balsamic reduction all topped w/a fried ricotta ravioli. Look at the beautiful presentation. (It was actually slightly prettier but I started to take a bite before I thought of you and had to put the ravioli back on top. Couldn't fix the piece of salmon I'd already broken off.)

I didn't want John to feel bad so I took a picture of his Veal Porterhouse.

It came with french fries that were truffled (whatever that means. They tasted like a normal FF to me.) He liked it but complained that he only got 5 bites.

So anyway we were sitting on an enclosed porch that looked out on the street and Zebra across the street. The whole time Zebra stayed empty. There was only one table seated on their porch while we ate dinner. WTF?

An Introduction...

Yesterday John again took a day off (I feel so special) to take me across the Chesapeake Bay to Baltimore. I needed to get some clay and pick the brains of the people at Clayworks. After that we decided since we were already on the other side of the bridge we would shoot over to Washington and introduce ourselves to the new addition to our family.

This in Alexandra born on August 8th to Johns brother Chris and his wife Paula.

Here are the proud Aunt and Uncle about the job of convincing the child that we are her favorites.
Alexandra has an older brother Sammy. He is also learning I am his favorite aunt but has been resistant. He only just learned my name. But I am on the case and will be buying him Thomas the Tank trains as that is his favorite right now. I will prevail.

In the name of winning his heart I let Sammy used my digital. He took pictures of "the mommy" and Uncle John.

And Daddy and the rug.

Here Sammy was regressing a little and went back to binky. It's okay Sammy, we all have to regress sometimes. It's perfectly normal. Oh the stress of gaining a new sibling.

Sunday we had a family day at the beach. John rarely takes off so it was a treat.

John tried to get me in the shot with the kids but I am not an idiot and wasn't about to get in the same shot as three sixteen year old girls in bikini's. Instead I took a percoset and sat in my chair and drooled. Here's a shot.

The usual mugging for the camera.

A day well spent.

John and I went to dinner on Saturday night with Jimmy (the owner of the mermaid mosaic) and his wife Maggie. During dinner John and I learned this new pose quite by accident. I cover his double chin and he covers my arm fat. Effective.

After dinner (where I was only able to eat gazpacho due to the root canal I had Friday morning)I was hungry and asked John to stop at this icecream place on the corner and get me a hot fudge cake.

I did not like the look on his face when he got it. It looks like he thinks he will be having some. But as it turned out the same root canal that prevented me from eating much dinner also prevented me from eating much hot fudge cake. Bummer.
