Big Blogger Surprise and more...

I have been some kind of busy which I need right now. Michael (my oldest son) moved out of Kuwait and into Iraq earlier this week and I am putting together a package for him. Anyone who has any experience over there and who might have a few clues for me let me know. I am still working, working, working in the studio everyday and I am grateful to have my mind occupied by my work.

Yesterday I received a very pleasant surprise in the mail. I LOVE surprises. Love 'em! Especially when they make me laugh. Remember the Big Blogger Contest? I received a package from the Follow Spot Big Blogger Prize Department. Look what was in it!

Now if you are like my son Johnny you are saying, "But you didn't win." Well I did make it to the top 3 people so back off and let me enjoy my delightful prize. Thank you Mark Minnick. I love my prize!

Now I have a movie rental to recommend. Rented On a Clear Day .It's a film about a man who decides to swim the English Channel. His determination inspires his friends in their own lives. Brenda Blethyn is in it and I love her. And I love this film. It's not sappy I swear.

Let me end with this (which I am pretty sure came from Glenda)

Congratulations on your award! I love it!

When my little brother was in Afghanistan, he had cravings for all of the candies we enjoyed as kids: Pop Rocks, Pez, Jolly Ranchers, etc. These fit in the pockets of their uniforms and don't melt. The food can be really bland there too, so he liked it if I sent Taco Bell sauce packets (yes, I used to take handfulls) and the oil and vinegar packets they give out at Subway. These were useful if he had to eat in the middle of the desert somewhere.

msliberty- Excellent suggestions. I sincerely appreciate them. Thanks for stopping by.

Frank- I am certainly glad I asked for ideas. These are the kinds of clues I needed.

It sounds like you have more fun watching the movie than I did. I'll have to try that next time. I'm gonna file that under "how to really enjoy a film"

Nothing perishable, as the package may get to him in two weeks or six months..(: Pack the package very securely so nothing rattles or rolls. Either one's gonna get it opened and inspected. Put transparent tape over all of his address: some mail gets battered around pretty bad. Seal it with a Kiss, a Hug, and a Prayer.:)

I'll check out that movie. We need all the inspiration we can get right now. I'm trying to remember what was the most requested item for my son. He was a big fan of Reeses Peanut butter anything and those little hand wipe packets. Oh, yes, we want PEACE, damnit and we want it NOW.

Anything War Can Do
Peace can Do Better, ergo
anything Bush & Cheney can do
Peace lovers can do ir better

Should be the logo for next elections, only backward countries elect warmongering Presidents and Commander in Chief of wars for the sake of history books - the US, Israel and gosh dammit Blair

This is Joey- the AV editor from The FollowSpot- congrats on 'placing' in the 'BigBlogger' game! It was a lot of fun, and generated a LOT of cross-blogging-interest, which I believe was the original goal. Wear your cap with pride, it was a vigorous competition!

Having been a lurker on your blog for a bit- had to comment on a couple of things...

First: I am a crafty-sort myself, and I have been looking into mosaics... if you are looking for an 'apprentice' for an afternoon or two on an upcoming project, let me know! Maybe your need for help and my curiosity will cross at some point???

Second: I appreciated your response on "NO's" blog : as my email is MacGuffin: "MacGuffin! That is my email adress! Mary nailed it before I did- but, there you are....

Alfred Hitchcock coined the term, and it is present in a number of his films... !!!

Donnie- Thank you. I have printed their list.

Quasar- I love that logo. Got it over at (of course)from Earl.

Joey!!! I am so glad you commented. I've been a poor blogger of late but it can't be helped. Many things going on. I appreciate your reading my blog and No's. I am sorry you didn't get to answer the MacGuffin before me as I am sure you could have explained better.

As far as mosaics go I would love to have you apprentice! Be will become addicted. John is about to make up a bunch of mirror frames for me to mosaic. Maybe that would be a good place to start. I will email you.

I hope your son stays safe and well in Iraq.

There was a blog I found, but lost the link, I think it was something like neurotic housewife in Iraq...I never fully read it, but I did see another side of life there.
