General Barry McCaffrey (Ret) has just released a report of his trip to Iraq. You can read it here. I found it very informative though he believes the mission can still be accomplished. Whatever. Bring them home!

I like to read Michael Yon's dispatches also. I don't have his same viewpoint on most things but he does give me an idea of what the soldiers are experiencing.

My favorite post today was Seconds Count at The Peace Train.

"There is no joy in being here. Nothing to laugh about. For every drop of information conveyed, a bucket is spilled." Michael writes beautifully.

Thanks for the tribute to the Peace Train. We love our Mary and Blue says hi!!

This from Gen McCaffrey: "The Secretary of Defense and the Joint Chiefs must get Congress to provide emergency levels of resources, manpower, and energy into this rapidly failing system. If we do not aggressively rebuild —the capability of the force actually deployed in Iraq will also degrade— and we are likely to encounter a disaster."

So his win in Iraq is tied to getting Congress to support them with emergency levels of manpower and energy($). What is that about? A little scary, I think.

Mary, thanks for your nice words about Peacetrain.

I wonder if McCaffrey is losing it. He gives a long report, things are bad and getting worst, the Iraqi army is useless, and we'll be there until 2010, at least.

Then making a 180 degree, he says we may win this thing. Some things are improving. I don't think he was talking about today.

Five suicide bombers struck Shiite marketplaces in northeast Baghdad and a town north of the capital at nightfall Thursday, killing at least 122 people and wounding more than 150 in one of Iraq's deadliest days in years.

The savage attacks came as a new American ambassador began his first day on the job, and Senate Democrats ignored a veto threat and approved a bill to require President Bush to start withdrawing troops.

At least 178 people were killed or found dead Thursday, which marked the end of the seventh week of the latest U.S.-Iraqi military drive to curtail violence in Baghdad and surrounding regions.

I wish that General who still thinks "the mission can still be won" would call me.

I don't even know what the hell the mission is anymore - it's changed so many times!!

I am not surprised that "hush" is the word when it comes to reality and the government. When I think of all the people fighting in Iraq, all the lives wasted.. it is devastating...
When I think of all the BS and lies, it pisses me off. People are more than commodities, more than chess pieces!

McCaffrey is smoking something. Even former Rummy insiders are now admitting the cause is lost.

Anyone still claiming that the mission can be accomplished! should saddle up and try to do it themselves. Our Army and Marines desperately need the help.

Hi Undeniable- "Kinda" is an understatement.

TUA- I wish he would too.

Katie- It is very disturbing to have dig so hard for truth.

Jolly Roger- I'm going to have to join him in that smoke if it keeps on like this.
