Condiment Set

So, my men went away for a 3 day weekend to Baltimore to watch the NCAA lacrosse tournament. Love 'em. I really do. But I was so looking forward to this alone time. Lisa is here but she is so quiet when she is home it's cool.

I got up early and did some gardening and then later I visited Shop of the Four Sisters. I picked up this condiment set and I have a question for you.

I know oil and vinegar go in the bottles but what would you put in the 2 little lidded pots? There is no cut out in the lids for a spoon and they seem way too big for salt and pepper. Ideas?

When I got home the rain began. I decided to run out and rent a movie. My plan was to make myself some eggplant (which the boys wouldn't touch) and enjoy a movie and some blissful alone time. A few miles from home it began to rain buckets. I thought about going home but just kept going. This torrential downpour continued on. Remember this is a tourist town. Everyone is at the beach and when it rains they are in their cars. I saw 2 accidents. When I got home it was still going and this is almost 90 minutes later. I pull in to the barn and stepped out of the car into a flooded barn floor. First I notice the electric is off. Second I had neglected to shut a few windows and have huge puddles to clean up.

After the rain had stopped I saw my couches-in-the-front-yard neighbors and asked if their electric was off. Nope. Then another neighbor called to see if I had cable and I said Cable! I don't have ELECTRIC. Problem. Everyone else has it and I don't. To make a long story short my electric didn't come on until about 10. No eggplant. No movie. Not the evening I envisioned. Boo hoo. I'll try again tonight.

I'd have said mustard and mayo, but without a spoon..? Looks really pretty though.

Oh, poor you, don't you just know you've pissed someone off upstairs, by now? Say a few hail Mary's (no pun intended), and hope you've squared it (hehe). Good luck for tonight!

Off the wall idea, but why not put a tiny little terrarium in each little pot? Just different. The main thing with the rain thing is that you got home safe and sound - cudda been woise!

I would have thought mustard too, until I saw the 'no spoon' bit. I like the chilli flakes idea, and maybe some sesame seeds.

Ingrid- I have my fathers flag that we usually hang on the barn because it is so large but John is gone. I am trying to do things he would normally do but that is a long way up. Should I try and get that slidey ladder out and hang it myself and not be a whimp or should I just not hang it. I really wanna try.

Carol- You know I depend on John for so much and I am always thinking "what the hell would I do w/o him?" I kinda felt like this was a chance to see what I have. It really wasn't much of a challenge was it. So what! No electric and a few puddles. Well it's a start. At any rate tonight has been heaven. Sipping cosmos and enjoying the peace.

Peacechick- you knnw I love an off the wall idea! i don't think they make plants that small though but hey! I might could dig some little seedlings up!

Willowtree- I liked chilli flakes too AND sesame seeds!

Peter-(oops sorry WT)You are a force of nature. When I read your comment I was like WOW! Everytime I look and those seemingly empty pots I am gonna see love and hope. Love and Hope it is!

funny suggestions! But seriously, I would think salt and perhaps grated cheese? I usually just take the spoon out after use to wash.

The first thought which came to mind was sea salt and cracked black pepper. Could it be that you were sold the wrong lids?

I'm good with home maintenance, especially electricity. I'll be right over...Carla will be there!?!

Mark- I can't help but laugh at your barbed comments. You are so witty!

La Bellina- good suggestions. I guess I will put in whatever the meal du juor calls for.

Yoga- You crack me up! You are relentless. Sadly, Carla is rarely here. We live about 2hrs apart.

That toothpick idea rocks.
I dunno what to do with those two bottles without the spoons. One for toothpicks and one for mints? Or Anise? Or is it fennel? The licorice spice they put out as a digestif and breath freshener at Indian restaurants?
I had a container in my guest bath and couldn't decide what to do with it. My friend says, "Mints." I said, "Right, like right after someone goes potty they immediately want to pop and mint." She said, "I know, condoms!" Right, like every time I have a guest who goes potty I want them to start thinking about sex. Good grief. But, if you like the concept, go for it, mints and condoms. Goes great with salad. I know Donnie, just where your mind is going!

Donnie- John said the same thing.

Pursie- LOL! Mints in the bathroom and condoms. Oh my teens would love that. I'd have the most popular bathroom in the 'hood.

Certainly alot of interesting suggestions. I like Anise. Then there was toothpicks, sea salt and pepper, grated cheese, tequila and limes, love and hope, sesame seeds, chili flakes, mustard, terrariums, and mayo. Honestly I think I could put just about anything in there depending on what statement I want to make. Funny, political, wierd, angry. Great list folks. Thanks.

Mary, do you know this Mark guy? Is he a wild and crazy friend, or just wild and crazy? For the little pots, grated Parmesan and olives? I like hope and love, too. Can't top that one.

Just me- Yes he is a good friend. You would find him very funny if you knew him. He always makes me laugh. But it's nice to know you care.
Olives! That's a good new one.

We need to start making these and marketing them. Lots of boutiques would sell them. Just think, Mosaic Condom/Mint sets! Hah! I see millions written all over this idea.
