March to Stop the War!

Where to start? It was a beautiful day weather-wise. We had a bit of coordinating to do with meeting up with our oldest daughter and parking somewhere to take the metro in to D.C. We were walking to the meeting place w/our signs and encountered a few supporters of the war. One lady gave us the thumbs down.

I found Carol for Peace who came from Colorado and Robert Rouse from Indiana and they were just as wonderful as they are on their blogs. I also met Barbara when she walked up to my son to comment on his t-shirt (Impeach Bush and Cheney) as her son makes them. She sells them and they can be gotten HERE. I recognized her right away. All the way from San Diego! So really good to meet them all.

Robert was so kind as to introduce me first to Cindy Sheehan's daughter, Carly AND then to Cindy! What a great moment for me as I really respect everything she does. I was also introduced to Tina Richards who could not have been kinder to me and gave me a big hug when she heard Michael was in Baghdad. I can't thank Robert enough as I really admire these women.

By the time the march got rolling there seemed to be a pretty good turnout. It is so encouraging to see. This was my oldest daughters first march and she really enjoyed it. She was surprised by the way the war supporters acted towards us and it was not a scene she liked at all. I don't like it either. As usual some of our marchers yelled back at them. I think the best approach is to just march on and ignore them.

Here are some scenes from the march:

Wow! Now that reminds me of the "old days"! I'm not the far away, I will seriously have to make the next one!

Good for you and your family Mary. I am proud of you all.

I was coming back from Fargo Sat, and on arriving home, had to seek out the "internets" 'cause damn if no one anywhere made any recognition of anything going on that I could see.

Sadly, it appears that those with "things" to hide have found a way yet again, to make it appear everyone agrees with them. Grrrrr! ; (

Glad you met up with fellow bloggers too! ; )

Thank you SO much for posting your pics and remembrances from the DC March Mary!

I think its wonderful that you could find all those great bloggers in a crowd that measured in the thousands..amazing :)

There is nothing better than the feeling of being with a huge group of individuals all with the same goal..get rid of the asshats running our country. The vibes are fantastic and for me, every time I attend a March or Protest..i feel refreshed and renewed to keep going after these idiots.

Thanks again :)

Very cool that you shared, mary. I did not end up going, it was really weird. People were initially interested and wanted to organize busses as we often do- then somehow it got into a lot of discussion surrounding the groups, the speakers, the potential for clashes, and if it makes a difference to go. For some it is an economic hardship to go, I can understand that. Its not close. In the end, people just did not seem interested this time around.

I think we can ask ourselves if there is a point to almost everything, but together these actions add up. I have to think so, anyway.

Nice that you met others. I hope I meet you too someday!

BRAVO!! Wish Washington was close enough for me to join. There is/was a peace rally here but it was one that called the city gov't to vote against the war which is kind of dumb because that is just not going to happen. It's not city politics, it's federal. Anyhow.. I am mulling over some other ways to show support.. if all goes well, (cross your fingers) I can mention it if I can get it off the ground..
anyhow.. you're right, just ignore those who yell, it's always easy to yell from the sidelines isn't it?

Thanks for doing this for all of us.

I'm at a loss to understand how there are people who still support the war. You can support the troops, the flag, hell even the administration, but it's painfully obvious that the war is just one big fuckup.

Peter- way cool!

Deuddersun- Look forward to seeing you there.

CM- It's a shame you have to dig. And when they do cover it it always seems to focus on the clash between the 2 sides.

Dusty- Really did me a world of good.

Lynn- I wasn't sure I wanted to meet bloggers but I couldn't be more pleased. I hope to meet you too.

Sheri- Bunny ears was my favorite too! I have to thank you for lending Robert to us. He's the best.

Tomcat- Glad I could do such a little bit.

Ingrid- I'm sure your plan will be a success.

WT- I don't get it either...

Thanks Chuck!

Robert! You just made my day all over again! And what a great gallery.

Carol- It really was just the boost I needed. This has been one long year. 2 more months to go.

TUA- Were your ears burning? I couldn't have that day w/o mentioning you. You are a huge support.

Hi Mary,

What a fantastic Blog, keep up the good work. But please remember there are some of our lads out there too.

I'm not having a go but the next time you protest at the Pentagon can you ask them if they must fight at all. Will they improve their reconition techniques and stop shooting up our lads.

P.S. You might give my "is it only me" blog a look.We think alike in many things.

Labellina-It's hard to edit down the pictures. There were so many good ones.

Way to go Mary and family! I'm so proud of you and all the others who put their feet on the pavement, their hearts on their signs and raise their voices for sanity.

The media's lack of focus on the growing peace movement is unforgivable, but you guys shine!
