A Short Drive

So I was driving my son to a football game at the High School. I get behind a car that is displaying this bumper sticker:

Jeesh. Naturally right next to it is this:

Oh those Christians. Always spreading the love. Golden Rule be damned. This is for them:

My son had to listen to my rant all the way to the game. He got out so fast it ended up working out for me as he didn't bother to ask for $.

As I headed for home I turned on the new POTUS 08 station on XM radio. Oh joy! The Republican debates were playing. Subject: Abortion. Talk of the sanctity of life and how precious it is from conception to its natural end. A natural end. Is that like the "naturally ending" lives in Iraq? I'm gonna guess that they DO include lives lost in war as "natural endings". Yup. Change station.

Hey. I lasted longer than Tomcat.

Don't you just love those christians? They're just so darned tolerant.

I was watching a doco on the Evangelical movement in the States recently, and one of the preachers they kept showing was always raining hellfire down on the deviants out there. Anyway, at the end, before the credits rolled, they put up a picture of him with some text under it to the effect that since the documentary was filmed, he had been fired by the congregation for having sex with a male prostitute! Now that's a good christian!

Now there's a question that never gets answered truthfully.

Aside from being OK to kill other living innocent people, oh, let's take a simple look at Katrina, our schools, health care, elderly.....doesn't appear they do much for the living, but we all know that ; (

Ya gotta love 'em? ; (

Must be our day for the Fundie crazies, Mary..(:

I went to the store to pick up come coffee creamer, and there was this six foot wide ass blocking the creamer, as well as the next ten doors down. I waited until the bulldozer turned around and fired up all four diesels so she could move. On the BIGGEST pair of tits I have EVER seen......I have seen highway billboards smaller than them, I swear to you.....

"Property of Jesus Christ!"

In foot high letters.

I tried to take a picture with my phone, and got kicked out of the store "for being a pervert."

Like Jesus ain't?

Just a little addendum to your bumper-sticker tale... Did you hear that conservative pundit Andrew Sullivan married his long-time partner a day or two ago? Here's hoping they enjoy a lifetime of happiness.

Is it okay for priests to have sex with little boys because it's just sex but love between some adults is wrong, it's a sin? Don't get me started.

I too would like to know what the fish symbol stands for and also W as mentioned in Jollyroger comment.

Great little post, Mary.

WT- Yes. That seems about right.

CM- Good examples.

TUA- Too funny!!!

Dawn- The fish is a Christian symbol.

JR- It usually goes that way here too.

Kvatch- He's quite a contradiction isn't he. I'm glad though to see a conservative who takes a broader view. It's a start.

Babzy- The fish is a Christian Symbol. Don't you see them on cars around you?

E4E- I can't top TUA.

Pat Robertson is a fruitcake who probably has dementia. HA! He has been hiding behind the bible for years, spouting all sorts of crazy, and unfortunately, there are those who actually listen. He falls under what I call "false prophets".

He ignores Christ's greatest commandment to his disciples: To love one another as I have loved you.

Which means, to love everybody despite their flaws, imperfections, and what-have-you.

If two people in this world can find love and respect for one another, and want to share their lives together, those two people should be protected by the laws that govern any marriage in this country.

You rock, Mary!!

I've seen the fish symbol on bumper stickers here but I always thought it was some kind of men's fraternity like Fred Flintstone's Royal Order of Water Buffalo

Good post, Mary. I just hope that everyone realizes that there are authentic Christians around (not the Pharisees on the religious right) that support the rights of the LGBT community.

The next time a theocon hits you with "pro-life", ask them about capital punishment. When they reply, exclaim that they are pro-death. That always leaves them slack-jawed. :-)

Just me- Exactly. It is so obviously hypocritical. Let's just stop judging and give everyone equal rights.

Babzy- Too funny!

Tomcat-I am aware that not all Christians are the same. So many shades of gray.
Like the pro-death idea.

I dated a woman who was an ex-mormon. She had the fish symbol on the back of her car, but under it was another ornament that read "and chips". It used to crack me up.

Hey, you're getting my blood pressure up tonight!

Yes, let's control women's bodies and worship clusters of cells while we call for the death penalty and wage wars against civilians far away.

I saw a bumper sticker that said: JESUS LOVES SOME OF YOU

Have you read Sam Harris's LETTER TO A CHRISTIAN NATION? It's a short book and a must read for anyone who loves their state secular...

Why is it anyone's business what we do behind our bedroom door? As long as children or animals aren't being hurt, who cares?

What's all the hoopla about "same sex marriage"? Anyone who's been married for any length of time knows the sex is always the same.

We had an anti gay marriage measure to vote on in a recent election, they had some version of the one man one woman bumpersticker.
While waiting in a line of cars with that one in front of us, we dubbed it the "I am a bigoted asshole" bumpersticker.
