A Most Excellent Opening!

These are my friends Bill and Deb Rolig. They are VERY talented artists. This is an opening I attended at the Water's Edge Gallery in Berlin last night. The art was remarkable to say the least. It was an excellent night with great art and great friends. I am very lucky to know them.

Stacey, this one's for you...

Glad I clicked on the link. I was wondering, how does a woman with a Bush induced head cold who was having trouble getting out to score tissues wind up in Berlin a few days later? Jeesh. The art is incredible.

I may have felt sorry for the cold and tissues, but to be able to fly to Berlin, to see an art show?

I'm envious. I've not been to Berlin since '90! ; (

Nice shots and great pieces of art work!!!! ; )

Hayden- You would have loved it.

Pursey-I guess I should have said Berlin MD. I've lived here so long I don't think about it. Gosh it would have been nice to go to Germany. I'm glad you liked the art.

TUA-I would have definitely enjoyed introducing you and walking through the gallery w/you.

Gary- I love that one too! Deb's work is amazing. Bill's is also in a completely different way.

CM- You are way ahead of me! I've never flown to Berlin. Only driven. About 15 minutes from home.

Is everyone in Maryland that good-looking?

The paintings are my kind of art. Love them. Favourites - Hula Hoop Girl and Man in Cage with Bird on Head.

I'm all inspired now. Thank you. I'm getting out the painting supplies.

I really like the one with the two doorways in the sunlight. I love how they captured the shadows in that painting.

That's my buddy in the last photo. He makes the beautiful custom frames holding all that beautiful art. My son just started working for him as an assistant. How cool is that?

Looks like an awesome time was had by all . . .

Deborah Roligs paintings are thought provoking. Ever since Basquait died I keep seeing crowns popping up in paintings. Seems to be a contemporary icon.

La Bellina- Oh I love exhibitions too! Shame we are so geographically far.

Casdok- IT was!

Babzy- It is inspiring isn't it? It's hard for me to pick favorites. I would hang any of them on my wall.

Antonio- Bill is a master of shadow and light and line.

Oceanshaman- What a great job for your son! That is a skill he can use all his life.

Quasar- We are lucky to have such great talent locally.

Chewy- Thought provoking to say the least. I love all her stuff and always have. And so much color which I LOVE.

Krissy- I honestly get excited when these 2 are showing. It is as good as it looks.

I'm gonna plug my new job here, mainly because I think it holds a place of promise for you and many of your readers.

I am now with the Lorton Arts Foundation ( and we are repurposing a former prison into a 55 acre Artists' Colony. There will be galleries, studios, classrooms, and performance spaces. This past weekend, Mikhail Baryshnikov performed on-site as part of a fund-and-friend-raising event.

Everything is still very much in its infancy, but this construction project is the biggest of its kind in the world, and I believe that it is going become a significant landmark for the DC area. I can envision it as a retreat for the artistic-type to make a day-trip and explore a dozen different disciplines and media.

Please check it out, and watch us grow!

Wow, what vibrant colours. I think I initially get hooked by colours as opposed to the painting/art itself. I have the same reaction to Van Gogh's purply blue colour that's all over his paintings..

btw.. do you know of any exercise or personal stories to exercise blogs? Just check out my site, you'll know why I ask..

Ingrid- I am big into color also. Even if I love the subject matter of painting I have to love the color also.

Iknow there are exercise blogs out there. I feel like I read something on it in news but I don't actually know of any. It's a great thing you are doing. Really.
