Happy Holidays Everyone

I have had no time for blogging but wanted to quickly wish everyone a happy and peaceful holiday. I will post on some of my merry making soon but not right now. It's been too hectic around here. Poor little Lisa went to the hospital on Christmas Eve in a lot of pain. After many tests we still aren't sure what is the problem. She came home that night thank goodness and has been doing fine if you take into account that shes been on pain killers. Had more tests this morning which we will have the results of Mon. or Tues.

I wish you all a very safe, happy and peaceful holiday.

Breaking in

My, my, my. I don't even have time to post this but I am. This story begins and ends w/Michael. Michael(my son) called me yesterday to say he'd just been on the news. He was randomly asked a question. The next news would be on at 11pm. I was working out in the studio pretty late and then I wrapped some gifts out there. Michael (again) had had his 60G Ipod stolen from his new truck at the mall yesterday. He swears he had locked it but it didn't appear to be a forced entry. He had left it in full view on the seat. I guess he forgot he was in American and it's Christmas! Because of that incident I decided I better lock the studio which I normally don't do. When I went in the house, I propped one eye open and sat down to watch the news and catch my kid. No go. All that suffering for nothing. He was not on the news.

In the morning I got my keys, walked out to the studio turned on the kiln and logged my info in my firing book. Went inside and my daughter told me her friend just called and Michael was on the news. S! I forgot. I quickly decided I would go out to the studio and watch the news while I wrap some more. At this time of year I can't just do one thing. I must multi-task if there is going to be any hope of me painting my toesies before Christmas. Run out there, turn the knob and...of course it's locked and I can see through the glass doors the keys sitting on the counter. S! And I had made sure to lock the french doors around back too. S, again! I called John. He informs me that he saw Michael on the news this morning. (Ugh!) He gets up earlier than all of us. He asked me if I tried the window. No. There is an air-conditioner in it, duh! He says he'll call me back. My wheels start spinning and I go out back behind the barn and check out the window unit. In minutes I had that air-conditioner out of the window and I am standing on the wagon stuffing myself through a 14 x 26 inch window. (Yeah I did it) As I am hanging upside down out of the window I reach for the ON button of the TV knocking over easels and tables. I'm in! I've bruised the inside of my legs and I'm walking bow-legged but I'm watching the news and wrapping! Did I see the clip w/Michael? NO! But I did get alot of gifts wrapped. I figure I will try again at noon.

When I came in the house (with my keys this time) I decided to check the website for the local station and what do you know. It could have been so easy. There it was. HERE it is. He's the handsome one. He had just walked out of a gas station where he had bought a 12 pack. He said he was trying to stand to get the truck in the shot. You can see it right over the interviewers shoulder. When John watched he said they said his name so I think I will watch at noon. This is probably only interesting to his mother and father.

New Car

Michael has been chomping at the bit to get a car. Last night after John got home from work they went up to the car dealer to get what Michael had been looking at. They came home a few hours later with a 4WD truck. Michael was so happy. John was so PROUD. Michael's first vehicle and he bought it himself. We were so happy to see Michael so happy.

He pulled in the driveway long enough to show me and take me for a quick spin but then of course he had to GO! Who's staying home when you have a new car. Remember your first car?

Just one more thing to freak me out!

Ever since I found someone else's underwear in my hotel room bed I have been creeped out by these places. This video does nothing to help the situation but it's better to know.

All Done

Yesterday I did the grouting so I'm all done. My switchplate covers came in BROKEN but that's okay. I need to step away for a minute. Here's the finished product. I'm going to relax now.

That grout blended in very nicely.

Here's a poem my friend sent me:

Think Like a Tree

by Karen I. Shragg

Soak up the sun
Affirm life's magic
Be graceful in the wind
Stand tall after a storm
Feel refreshed after it rains
Grow strong without notice
Be prepared for each season
Provide shelter to strangers
Hang tough through a cold spell
Emerge renewed at the first signs of spring
Stay deeply rooted while reaching for the sky
Be still long enough to
hear your own leaves rustling.

The best laid plans...

Remember how I planned to while away the day grouting? Yeah. Didn't happen. Bad weather around the DC/Baltimore area was delaying the truck that was bringing my grout. So 10:30 AM turned into maybe noon and then it just got later and later. So much nervous energy and nothing to do. Johnny came home right after school. His wrestling match with Kent Island was cancelled due to bad weather. Kent is just this side of the Cheasapeake. Still and hour 1/2 at least away from me. He was bummed. It was really just raining here. There was a small amount of snow of the ground here but it was wet. Finally I started dinner and decided to hit the Harris Teeter again as I needed just a couple things and I STILL had 3 hours before I had to leave to get Michael.

While I was in the grocery store Michael called. His flight that would have been arriving at 8PM was cancelled! I should seen this day was going wrong. The next flight would leave Philly at 8:40 and I could pick him up around 9:30. Okay. Okay. I go home, eat dinner, phone rings, it's Michael, flight cancelled again! The next flight would be at 11PM IF it didn't get cancelled.

We quickly decided to go and get him. Philly is 2.5 hours away. We jump in the car and speed away...until, that is we hit Delaware which is minutes from my home. The roads got worse and worse. They were covered in snow. I don't know where the hell the salt trucks were but they weren't on the road. We are going maybe 40mph. Michael has been sitting in an airport bar since 5PM with people buying him beers. It was a long tense ride. We finally got there at 10:30. Everyone was exhausted and um, HAPPY. No pictures. The camera was forgotten. Big hugs, a few minutes of talking and then sleep. Thankfully the roads were far better on the way home. I slept like a rock when I finally hit my bed. Breathing easy today. Michael is home.

BIG DAY!!!!!

Okay everyone....I have that feeling today like I used to get when I was a kid and it was Christmas. I think I'm burning calories without even trying. I go to the airport at 8PM!!!!!!!!! But I have to contain myself because I am sure Michael will be very tired and cranky. I just want to get one good hug in and I swear I will leave him alone.

Luckily it's grout day so I will be busy grouting today and that should make the time pass until I get to go get him.

In other friend Su and I went to the opening of the Harris Teeter last night. Here's how desperate we are for a good grocery store around here: The parking lot was full. We had to wait for a space. I'm sure if we weren't there together we would have left. When we went in there were long lines snaking around everywhere for free samples. I mean come on! It's just a free sample at the grocery store people. Are you really gonna wait 10 minutes in line to taste some chicken?!?!?! You could barely walk in the place. We were glad to see a produce section with some great organic stuff and things that would normally not be seen in our GS like SWISS CHARD and really beautiful beets. The meat dept. looked good too. Cut to order meat is like unheard off around here. Normally were lucky to get fresh meat. Hope it all wasn't just a show for opening night.

Another day, same mosaic

If your looking for something new it isn't here! Still at it. But I'm going to make a bold statement this morning and say THIS will be my last day mosaicing. (Other than the day I grout.) I will enlist anyone who walks through my door so beware! Both of the kids spent the night at a friends last night. John is gone to work (workaholic). They have to come home sometime...

My hands are taking the brunt of the whole thing. I did Babzy's thing last night and put lotion on and then the gloves before bed. Helped a lot. Then this morning I picked up the laundry basket and winced a little. Yes, the hands are slowing me down BUT I am determined to finish this beast today!!! And it will all be worth it.

The right hand corner and wall completed!

The left hand corner.

Finally the left hand wall and today's goal.

In case you are wondering, yes there is no glass in my cabinets but I believe that Mr. Shoemaker (as in the shoemaker's children have no shoes) will be taking care of that when I'm finished. We moved across the driveway and into this house at least 5! years ago and never could figure out what kind of back splash we wanted or find the kind of glass we wanted. But now it's ridiculous. I am determined to have my kitchen finished.

I found some bisque (as in unglazed tile) outlet covers so when I am done I can glaze these to match the mosaic and fire them in the kiln. Unfortunately the actual outlets will still be white. I'm not really aware of anything I could paint them w/that would stick.

Sandpaper hands

Hey everyone! My hands are like sandpaper right about now and sore. I ran out of amber color tiles which is the swirl color so last night I had to go out in the studio and glaze tiles so I could fire the kiln this morning. Finished around midnight. Okay so maybe I won't be done until Sunday and grout on Monday. IF! the grout is in. I just want to be done so my hands can get back to normal.
Almost there!
