Saturday Plans

Really wanted to be at the march in DC this morning. I was planning on it all week. Nothing was coming together with the rest of the family though and by Friday afternoon I realized I would be going alone. I bagged it. By Friday night I was hit by a cold. It's amazing how fast those things come on.

So I wake up on this GORGEOUS Saturday morning and think "Bummer. Would have been a great day in DC." Now I find it is the Winefest in Ocean City today. I miss it every year because I am out of town. Now I am in town and I have a cold! Can I rally round? Take some coldease and airborne and grab a wine glass? Could I even find someone to go w/me? Winefest alone would be a lot more tragic than marching for peace alone.
Whoa is me...

The Amazing Fly Adventure

Okay, so I'm not exactly a pacifist. You wouldn't have wanted to be a fly on the wall in my home last night.

I was working in the studio late yesterday afternoon. The windows in the house were open (screened) and dinner was already cooking. I came in from the studio about 6:30. I walked in and Lisa made me aware of the 300 flies on the ceiling of the kitchen. I knew John was on his way home and I wanted to call(John there are 300 flies on the ceiling! Hurry!!!) him to get...fly paper? I don't know. What the hell am I gonna do here? Where are these flies coming from? When I went to each window the screens were covered w/flies on the outside. This never happened in the suburbs were I grew up and I don't know what to do. My mother used to give us a penny a fly when we were kids but I mean I only ever made 2 or 3 cents on that.

What else could I do but get the fly swatter and get to it. Unbelievable. John and Johnny came home. John thought my estimate of 300 was woefully low. I only had one swatter. I continued on while Johnny hung a couple rolls of fly paper then he got his electric fly swatter which he'd been waiting to use. It kinda eletricutes the fly. Not really pratical as you have to isolate the fly but just the kind of gadget Johnny begs you to buy for him. John got out the vacuum and very slowly sucked them off the ceiling. Lisa was on cleanup collecting the fallen carcuses. With the whole family in place flies were dropping like...er, flies. After about 1/2 and hour we had the place relatively cleared.

What the hell was that???? Sometime during the battle we had shut the windows and turned on the AC. When I woke up this morning there were still more than a few flies hanging out. I swatted at least 25. I looked at the windows. The screens still had flies on them but last night they were thick w/them and today it was way less. I went outside and saw that there are a LOT of flies on the house. All I can think is it has something to do w/them cutting down the corn across the road yesterday. They cut down the corn every year but I've never had this happen before.

Needless to say I will be needing a new fly swatter.

Troops Out Now

Sorry. My blog has almost come to a standstill. I'm just busy. September is always a busy month for me. I need TIME! So much to do. Plus I'd like to update the whole thing which of course makes me just turn away from it as...I don't have time. I'll get it back soon. No worries.

More on the march...

I knew Johnny and Hallie (a friend) were interviewed by someone and I've been waiting for the You Tube. Okay so Johnny didn't make the cut. God knows what he said (I wasn't there). The first person you see other than the interviewer is Hallie.

I had to post this one because of the pro war guy who hits a guy w/his sign and licks his finger and touches him (WTF?). It really gives you a sense of the vibe going on.

Finally this one from Beachblogger with Ward Reilly, a member of Veterans for Peace summing it up.

March to Stop the War!

Where to start? It was a beautiful day weather-wise. We had a bit of coordinating to do with meeting up with our oldest daughter and parking somewhere to take the metro in to D.C. We were walking to the meeting place w/our signs and encountered a few supporters of the war. One lady gave us the thumbs down.

I found Carol for Peace who came from Colorado and Robert Rouse from Indiana and they were just as wonderful as they are on their blogs. I also met Barbara when she walked up to my son to comment on his t-shirt (Impeach Bush and Cheney) as her son makes them. She sells them and they can be gotten HERE. I recognized her right away. All the way from San Diego! So really good to meet them all.

Robert was so kind as to introduce me first to Cindy Sheehan's daughter, Carly AND then to Cindy! What a great moment for me as I really respect everything she does. I was also introduced to Tina Richards who could not have been kinder to me and gave me a big hug when she heard Michael was in Baghdad. I can't thank Robert enough as I really admire these women.

By the time the march got rolling there seemed to be a pretty good turnout. It is so encouraging to see. This was my oldest daughters first march and she really enjoyed it. She was surprised by the way the war supporters acted towards us and it was not a scene she liked at all. I don't like it either. As usual some of our marchers yelled back at them. I think the best approach is to just march on and ignore them.

Here are some scenes from the march:

2 Things

My friend Su is always sending me interesting links. I tell her she should start a blog but she says she has no time. I wish she'd change her mind because I know it would be an intelligent blog as well as very cool visually as she is an artist. I'm posting two links she recently sent me.

This first is an article on giving up bottled water:
FORGO BOTTLED WATER.

The second is a link to Bill Moyers "Buying the War". If you don't have time to sit and watch the entire thing then just watch a chapter at a time. 15 minutes or so.

How did the mainstream press get it so wrong? How did the evidence disputing the existence of weapons of mass destruction and the link between Saddam Hussein to 9-11 continue to go largely unreported? "What the conservative media did was easy to fathom; they had been cheerleaders for the White House from the beginning and were simply continuing to rally the public behind the President — no questions asked. How mainstream journalists suspended skepticism and scrutiny remains an issue of significance that the media has not satisfactorily explored," says Moyers. "How the administration marketed the war to the American people has been well covered, but critical questions remain: How and why did the press buy it, and what does it say about the role of journalists in helping the public sort out fact from propaganda?"

A Short Drive

So I was driving my son to a football game at the High School. I get behind a car that is displaying this bumper sticker:

Jeesh. Naturally right next to it is this:

Oh those Christians. Always spreading the love. Golden Rule be damned. This is for them:

My son had to listen to my rant all the way to the game. He got out so fast it ended up working out for me as he didn't bother to ask for $.

As I headed for home I turned on the new POTUS 08 station on XM radio. Oh joy! The Republican debates were playing. Subject: Abortion. Talk of the sanctity of life and how precious it is from conception to its natural end. A natural end. Is that like the "naturally ending" lives in Iraq? I'm gonna guess that they DO include lives lost in war as "natural endings". Yup. Change station.

Hey. I lasted longer than Tomcat.

Eh Hee

I'm gonna-drop-the-devil-to-his-knees...

Why march?

Sept15 button

I'm marching because men and women are risking and losing lives in Iraq for an immoral war. I'm marching because war is not the answer. I'm marching because I'm against a lawless administration. I'm marching because I want accountability from the people who call for war. I'm marching because I want to see Bush and Cheney IMPEACHED! I marching because I want America to be a proud and respectful nation.
